Throughout recorded history there have been those among us who have dedicated their lives for our good. This section is dedicated to their legacy, lest we forget..
Adoringly dubbed the "Savior of mothers", while serving as the head of Vienna General Hospital's First Obstetrical Clinic, this visionary doctor put forward the theory that hand washing with a chlorinated lime solution between patients would cut the extremely high mortality rate from the then 10 - 35% from "Childbed fever".
It took ten years for this method to be accepted. In 1861 Dr. Semmelweis wrote of his clinical trials using this practice, showing that the mortality rate had gone down below 1%. Despite this finding, it took years for his method to be widely accepted, during which he was subjected to much ridicule.
Thank you Dr. Semmelweis for your integrity while under fire.
In 1949 Dr. Klenner published a report in Southern Medicine and Surgery, denoting the successful treatment of the Myelitis virus Polio, with complete recovery in 60 patients, within three days, with no paralysis.
Only one orthomolecular medicine was used in treatment. It was Sodium Ascorbate, a specific type of Vitamin C. It was given both orally and as injection, in very large dosages.
“When proper amounts are used, it will destroy all virus organisms.” “Don’t expect control of a virus with 100 to 400mg of C.” – Dr. Klenner
As one of the founders of Orthomolecular Medicine, Dr. Klenner put his patients first and used what worked. Thank you Dr. Klenner!
Dr. Szent-Györgyi researched a chemical agent, present in plant juices, which had the effect of delaying oxidation.
He suggested that this agent, was a mysterious Vitamin. In 1937, he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, in part for his work in naming Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), and also for his work in cell respiration/ oxidation. Work which he continued to apply to cancer research.
Some of you have benefitted from his work with Vitamin C, in cases of chicken pox, colds, coxsackie, herpes, hepatitis, heart disease, HIV, HPV, measles, mumps, polio, shingles, and of course with improved skin.
His work with what was once known as Vitamin P (Flavanoids), some of you would know as being utilized with allergies, cancer, prostatits and vericose veins.
Thank you Doctor, for pressing on while dodging Nazi’s and often inadequate funding, to bring all of us the better health, wrought from your life’s work.
Successful treatments for Cancer, Mental issues, MS, Heart disease, and the development of mineral carriers to dramatically increase absorbtion rates, are his legacy.
Though his patient roster could read as a who’s who of the famous, with President Ronald Reagan and John Wayne among the many, he accepted all who could come to his clinic in Germany.
He touched the lives of all here in the United States when he was instrumental in passage of the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, providing all of us access to these orthomolecular medicines. As President Bill Clinton stated, “Simply said, the legislation amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to establish new standards for the regulation of dietary supplements including vitamins, minerals, and herbal remedies.
The passage of this legislation speaks to the determination of the legislators involved, and I appreciate their work. But most important, it speaks to the diligence with which an unofficial army of nutritionally conscious people worked democratically to change the laws in an area deeply important to them. In an era of greater consciousness among people, about the impact of what they eat, on how they live, indeed, how long they live, it is appropriate that we have finally reformed the way government treats consumers and these supplements in a way that encourages good health.
My sincere gratitude to Dr. Nieper, who strove for excellence by thinking way outside of the box, to put his patients first.
The faces of dedication..

Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis, MD

Dr. Fredrick Klenner, MD
Dr. Albert von Szent-Gyorgyi, MD, PhD
